Well…

by | Feb 3, 2017 | Not Work, Our House

When building a house there are a lot of unknowns. When you live in a rural area you need a well. A well is one of the big unknowns. In 2017 it feels wrong that when a well drilling company starts drilling, they have no idea how deep they will have to drill to get a good supply of water.

In our budget we have an allotment which covers drilling, piping, pumps and wiring.

I had heard horror stories of wells that had to go extremely deep, as deep as 400 feet. The cost for those issues were astounding. Our well was not a horror story but it was bad enough. They had to drill 283 feet.

You learn a lot when you build a house but this is one of the things I wish we could unlearn. Drilling wells is an expensive prospect. The drilling consumed the entire budget. We are now having to pay separately for the piping, pumps and wiring. It ended up being double what was budgeted.

The experts say this is not comparable to the flu/ I agree but for very different reasons.
