Every once in awhile things come along and change our perspective in such a profound way, it is tough to imagine the vastness of the new understanding or the limitations that existed before that new perspective.
We watched the movie Room on Sunday before the Oscars. In it a boy and his mother have been held captive in a single room shed. The boy has never been anywhere except in the room.
So I don’t spoil it, I will put it like this… If he were to get out, how life-altering would the new understanding be? How epic would the change be?
It reminded me of a funny moment during my formative years. I can neither confirm nor deny the use of drugs during this episode. It was a simple thought. It was friends gathered around a small fire at roughly 2 AM.
When a stick person is drawn on a piece of paper it can only know and understand its two-dimensional world. It would likely never occur to a stick person to imagine anything else. Without being aware of any other possibility, nothing else could be imaginable.
But… what if someone suddenly poked a hole in the paper?
Mind blown!
