Fireplace Wall – Continued

One thing you learn about the building process is that some things have to happen in specific order. In fact, most decisions should also happen in order.

We have been fretting over paint colors in the great room. What makes it tough is until everything comes together picking out colors and finishes happens with small samples. So it is best when you can pick the permanent things like tile, and in this case our custom mantle.

Our concrete mantle is one of a kind. It is a custom made and its made of concrete. The way they color it is somewhat left to chance. We gave them a color to try to match but since there is no way to match perfectly you don’t have a lot of choice in exactly how it turns out.

So a good rule of thumb is to love the things that are harder to change then match finishes like paint to things like tile and mantles.
